Welcome to the Irondequoit Chapter
NSDAR The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) is a non-profit, non-political, volunteer women’s service organization comprising 3,000 chapters and over 190,000 members.
The Irondequoit Chapter, NSDAR, was founded in Rochester, New York, on February 15, 1894, under the leadership of Carolyn Crafts Little. There were 16 founding members, one being Louisa Rochester Pitkin. She was the daughter of Revolutionary War patriot, Nathaniel Rochester, founder of our city. The membership grew quickly and among them were eight women whose fathers had served in the American Revolution. One of Rochester's most notable citizens and our most famous member, Susan B. Anthony, was an active member of our chapter. |
The Irondequoit Chapter's DAR House, also known as the Hervey Ely House, stands as a good example of how the DAR works in the area of historic preservation. To read more about the house, see the Hervey Ely House page.
